John Rome, a long time Vaquero assistant coach, was named head coach Monday. Rome replaces John Cicuto, who resigned after 33 years coaching at GCC.

Rome brings impressive coaching credentials to the Vaqs. Rome was the head coach of Citrus College from 1995 to 2000 where he compiled a 32-28 record for the Owls. He was also named Foothill Conference Coach of the Year in 1995.

Rome also has coached as an assistant at UCLA and the University of New Mexico. He also had head coaching experience at local high school Burbank High.

Rome was a Vaquero assistant from 1990 to 1994 and again after a short hiatus he returned to the GCC campus and has been here since 2001. During his time at GCC, Rome has served as offensive line coach, recruiting coordinator, offensive coordinator, and assistant head coach.

Rome helped coach the Vaqs to a win in the U.S. Bank Beach Bowl in 2001 and the Western State Bowl in 2006. The team also won the Western State Conference Southern Division Championship in 2005. Rome looks to continue the success that Cicuto had during his time.
