ASGCC Starts New Semester With New Officers

With the end of the Spring 2007 semester, many of the old cabinet members, senators, representatives and the president transferred to universities of their choice. This left the ASGCC wide open for any student interested in student government to take a chance and run for office.
When Hrach Orujyan, the new ASGCC President, was asked what he was looking forward to for the new 07-08 fiscal year he said, "I am very excited and honored to be the ASGCC President and the student trustee of the new 07-08 year. I think it's wonderful that we have the opportunity to present the student perspective in those committees and make sure our students have great experiences at GCC."
Changes Orujyan would like to make this year within the student government include, "Making sure more and more students are aware of the student government. We want students to know that whenever they need help we are here for them. We also want to get more feedback from the students to more effectively represent them in governance committees."
The next main ASGCC event will be Club Rush Week, Monday through Friday of next week. All new clubs will have the opportunity to set up a booth in the Plaza Vaquero and recruit members. Requirements to start a club are to be a current student at GCC and have an adviser. "In order to register a club" said Orujyan. "We have already made some changes. The club can be 'Active' or 'Inactive'. This change gives students the opportunity to start a club even after the deadline. The difference is that inactive clubs cannot request financial support from AS. The deadline to be an 'Active' club is September 21st. Students can pick up club registration packets from the student affairs office which is located in the Student Center."
ASGCC is also accepting Campus Project Support Applications for this fall. Campus Project Support, also known as CPS, supports projects initiated by the students, faculty and the staff of GCC. Based on ASGCC finance Committee recommendations, the legislature will grant funds for those projects that will benefit the student body and the college. Lia Thorosian, ASGCC Vice President of Finance said, "The Campus Project Support Application was sent out on Monday September 10th to the campus community. It is of the utmost importance to the finance committee to encourage all to apply if they have a project in mind to take place on campus which is beneficiary and for the students. The Campus Project Support deadline is on October 5th, at 3 p.m."
All members of the faculty, staff, and student body of GlendaleInitiating projects on behalf of a campus department, program, or organization are eligible to receive funding from ASGCC.
A Laser Tag event was set up last Thursday "for the students to take a little break from their classes and have some fun," said Orujyan. "Our Activities committee is constantly working on new activities. Stay tuned."
